Elizabeth Lee Aubrey, age 94, died September 29, 2006 at Shirkey's Nursing Center, Richmond, MO with three of her five children at her side,. She was born in Liberty, Missouri on April 21, 1912 to Robert Wilson Preston and Tempie Theodosia [nee Black] Miller. Funeral services will be at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 4300 N. Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO October 2, 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Eric V. Johnson officiating. She was the third of 10 siblings. She often spoke of her childhood and especially of the death of a younger brother, Robert G. at the age of 6 months. Her family started calling her "Bea" when her younger brother, Richard, was a toddler and could not get his tongue around Elizabeth. The nickname stuck and she was known to many in her family as Bea or Aunt Bea. During her early teens Elizabeth lived with her Grandmother Miller in Independence, Missouri. She attended William Chrisman high school. She also worked for a family in the community. Later she worked at a factory in Kansas City, Missouri as well as other places. When she was 15 years old (1927) she met Carl Aubrey at the youth meetings in the Claycomo, MO McMurry Methodist church. They were married in her parent's home on January 2, 1933 near what is now Claycomo. Elizabeth and Carl celebrated 64 years together before Carl died in 1997. They started their married life during the depression days. Their first two homes were rented until they were able to purchase 3 acres in Claycomo, Missouri upon which they built a small three room house. On this acreage they later built three homes with the last at 72 South Emerson where she lived for 46 years. To their union were born 5 children: Gayland Ernest (Wilda), Pueblo, CO, Carolyn Sue Bird, Sublette, KS, Carl Lee (Crystal), Raytown, MO, Eleanor Elizabeth Wright (Garry), El Dorado, KS and Stanley Dwight (Eleaner), Emmet, ID. Elizabeth was a devoted homemaker. During her active years she raised a garden and canned most of it as well as being an excellent seamstress. She made many of her daughter's clothes and kept everything mended on her Singer sewing machine powered the old fashioned way by a foot treadle. Twice she was like a single parent to her children---one year while her husband went to Pearl Harbor to learn the carpentermillwright trade and another time when he was in the Navy. She became a born again Christian while at home in July, 1939 and served her Lord faithfully until her death. Her main ministry was to her children but she also used her gift of encouragement by sending many notes and cards. . Her Christian life influenced her children to follow in her foot steps. In August, 1940, along with her husband, she became a charter member of Maple Park Church of the Nazarene, Claycomo, Missouri. In May, 1950 they became charter members of the North Kansas City Church of the Nazarene later named Dundee Hills and now New Hope Church of the Nazarene, Kansas City, Missouri She is survived by her children and spouses listed above, 15 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 2 greatgreat grandchildren, a brother, Harmon Dudley Miller, Marshfield, Missouri; and 3 sisters---Tempie Elmaurine Robb, Richmond, Missouri; Sudie Marie Salyer and Mary Lou Blair, both of Kansas City, Missouri.
