Obituary:
Vera N. Sands, 87, of Connersville, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at her home surrounded by her daughters and granddaughters. She was born on June 24, 1933, in Connersville, to the late C. Dale Ronan and Lorene Mae Reed Ronan. On June 3, 1951 she married William Sands Jr. in Connersville. They shared almost 67 years together until he passed on January 15, 2018.
She was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church in Connersville.
She had volunteered for many years at Fayette Memorial Hospital. Prior to her retirement in 1995, Vera worked for Connersville News-Examiner for 24 years as the head bookkeeper and corporate secretary.
She is survived by three daughters: Cynthia (Terry) McCormack of Petersburg, MI, Rebecca (Johnny) Johnson of Connersville, and Jennifer (Robert) Kalem of Fishers; six grandchildren: Dustin McGillem, Brooke Kessinger, Britny McGillem, Devon McGillem, Joshua McCormack, and Angela Schuricht; two step grandchildren: Shawna Johnson and Brittany Johnson; eight great-grandchildren: David, Carly Jo, Alaina, Cole, Scarlett, Juliet, Lincoln, Colton, Mason, and Hudson; two step great grandchildren: Taryn and Noah; and a sister, Sharon Ronan.
Visitation for Vera will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St. Connersville, Indiana 47331. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Vera’s memory to one of the following: Fayette County Animal Shelter, Fayette County Library, Fayette County Senior Center, Fayette County Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
