Ernest Roland Reed, 88, of Winona, Missouri, passed away on September 29, 2020, at Ozarks Medical Center, in West Plains, Missouri. He was born May 21, 1932, in Fremont, Missouri, son of Guy “Cat” and Helen (Weaver) Reed. Ernest was the eldest of four children; Jerry, James, and Sharon.
He spent his early years in and around Fremont. He attended both elementary and high school at Fremont and graduated in the class of 1949. In 1952 he enlisted and severed in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning, he met and married the love of his life, Juanita Arlene Skiles, on September 28, 1957. They were blessed, with 63 years of marriage and two children, Cheryl and Ernest. A short time later, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked for the American Can Company until his retirement in 1993. They spent their retirement years in Winona, Missouri. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and supported the Shannon County Food Pantry. He enjoyed being in the woods and loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Arlene Reed, of the home; daughter, Cheryl Reed of St. Louis, MO; son Ernest Reed, Jr. and wife, Pam of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Katie Reed and Raymond Reed both of St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Daniel of St. Louis, MO; sister, Sharon Norris of Winona, MO; along with several nieces and nephews.
Roland was dearly loved and will be greatly missed, by all his family and many friends that he made throughout his life.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Evaline Cemetery, Fremont, Missouri, with Pastor Susan Norris officiating, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Winona, Missouri.
