Norma “Louise” Wood, 83, of Rayville, died Monday, September 28, 2020, at her home.

Louise was born on April 27, 1937, in Crosses, AR, the daughter of Roy James and Ivy Lee (Robins) Pettit. She was united in marriage to Ralph Wood of Bidville, AR; he preceded her in death in January of 1998. She was then united in marriage to Paul Gray of Iowa; he preceded her in death in 2009. She was currently married to Alvin Coop of Independence; they were married on December 17, 2016; he survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Randall Wood (Debra Ward) of Lexington and Russ Wood (Pam Randol) of Rayville; daughter, Jackie Werle (Dennis Layton) of Excelsior Springs; 5 grandchildren: Josh Wood (Shana Kurmen), David (Heidi) Wood, A.J. Wood, Cassie Werle, and Alison (Brian) Williams; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Darrel Pettit and sister, Sue Davis, both of Patrick, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and three sisters, Frankie, Catherine, and Jackie.

Louise was reared and educated in Elkins, AR. After her marriage, she moved to the Kansas City area. Louise worked over the years for AT&T, Southwestern Bell, both in Kansas City, and at the local business offices in the area. She was a very resilient woman who owned racecars, a farm, and babysat half the kids in Ray County. She loved farming and helped the kids show cattle. She loved Blue Grass music. Louise had a great love for racing and started with her sons in go karts, then moved up to stock cars. She will be missed dearly by all her friends and family.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to donor’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Inurnment to be held at a later date. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of arrangements.
