Bill Hess served in Squadron 0 of the 3505th as a member of the Air Training Command, Technical Division, training as a fighter pilot at Scott Field (now Scott’s Air Force Base), Illinois. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps, Bill attended Olivet Nazarene College (now Olivet Nazarene University) on the G.I. bill in Bourbonnais, Illinois. While at Olivet Nazarene, Bill Hess played basketball for the ONC Tigers, met and married his beautiful Rosalie, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Bill Hess was an accountant for United Airlines, Normal Glass Company, and spent the majority of his accounting career with Jewel-Osco upon retiring in 1988 after 28 years with the company.

Bill Hess always made time for his family and his church. He also ensured his faith was at the center of his life. Between the many camping trips, fishing excursions, or road trips to visit family, Bill also served as a leader on the boards of Chicago First Church of the Nazarene (Chicago, Illinois) and Trinity Church of the Nazarene (Naperville, Illinois). After raising his family in the cities of Chicago and Wheaton, Illinois, Bill and Rosalie Hess retired to “The Lake” in Greenville, Illinois. The Lake served as the primary summer destination for his children and grandchildren – always imparting life lessons while teaching a new fishing technique, how to properly mow the property, staying up on water skis, or how to enjoy a Cubs game.

Bill and Rosalie made their final move to Morton, Illinois in 2016.
