Effie Ruth Christopher was the youngest of seven children. She was born on August 7, 1932, in Dos Palos, California. She passed away on September 18, 2020, in Fresno, California. In 1936 her family moved to Mendota, California where she grew up on the family farm. She attended Tranquillity Union High School. While attending high school she met the love of her life, Anthony Carvalho. The couple married at a young age on October 6, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kerman. They were married for 73 years. Ruth was a loving and hardworking homemaker and Anthony worked on the family farm where they raised their four children together. Those days were filled with many activities such as 4-H, music lessons, sporting events, and memorable family gatherings. The family often got together with neighbors and family, such as the Yribarrens, Armases, Silveiras, Martins, Del Testas, etc. Ruth was very involved with St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society, she sang in the church choir, taught catechism, and helped put on many of the fundraisers for the church, which included the annual lamb barbecue.

One of her greatest achievements after raising her children was that she completed her education and received her high school diploma.
