Albert, along with his brother-in-law, Yusuf Hanania, were tragically struck and killed by a Jeep driven by 19-year-old Kenneth Loveday, while they jogged on the morning of June 5 in Northville. In that instant, seven (7) children were left fatherless and two loving wives became widows.

Kenneth Loveday was ordered to stand trial on manslaughter charges, causing the deaths of Yusuf Hanania and Albert Abdelnour. Oakland County Circuit Judge Francis X. O'Brien would not allow evidence regarding Loveday's past driving record and drug use, which had come out at earlier court proceedings. The evidence included testimony by Loveday's friends who said he had smoked marijuana prior to the accident, and sometimes attempted to scare joggers by aiming his vehicle toward them, then veering off as part of a game. Due to this evidence not being allowed into court, the jury decided Kenneth Loveday was guilty of negligent homicide, not manslaughter. Negligent homicide carries a maximum penalty of two years. Manslaughter is a 15-year felony.

Circuit Judge Francis X. O'Brien credited Loveday for 175 days served in jail while awaiting trial and ordered him to pay a measly sum of $30 to the state's crime victims' fund. To add insult to injury, the state parole board granted Kenneth Loveday parole six months after his conviction, without permitting the victims to address the parole board before the decision was made, which is their right.

Albert Abdelnour owned the Meadow Pharmacy and a party store in Farmington. He graduated from Wayne State University College of Pharmacy in 1973. Yusuf was an engineer and vice-president of the Singh Development Corp. in Birmingham. He graduated from Wayne State University in 1974.
