John Register Alderman, Sr., a resident of Dothan, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in a local hospital. He was 73 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Linder officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-2 pm.

John was born on April 14, 1947, in Moultrie, Georgia, and lived the early years of his life in Barwick and Thomasville. He joined the US Army and served two tours in Vietnam. John was employed with CSX where he was a Communication Engineer for over 30 years until his retirement in 2011. He was a self-taught musician, playing by ear, he could play almost any instrument. He especially loved Blue Grass music and playing the mandolin, guitar, and most of all the banjo. John once played with Alison Krauss, Marty Stewart, and Travis Tritt and was inducted into The Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame. He loved to grow vegetables in his garden. John also loved spending time on Lake Eufaula to fish. He was a member of Westgate Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Alderman; his son, John Register Alderman, Jr.; his daughters, Jacqueline (Sal) Cordaro, Deborah (Matt) Morris, and Robin (Jason) Loper; his step-sons, Mike (Jana) Linder and Jeff (Angie) Linder; his stepdaughter, Dena (Randy) Griffin; his 22 grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; his sister, Gloria Brunner; and several nieces and nephews.
