I've been lucky in my life to become friends with people of great courage and valor and Chief Warrant Officer William Terry Hancock was the perfect example of a true warrior. My time with him was limited in comparison to his family, but every moment was cherished. I always loved the times in his shops and talking about our adventures. He didn't talk much about his military experiences when more than one person was in the shop but he did when we were alone. Again I cherish those moments. He have so much to humanity and he dearly loved his friends and family. And everyone knew his wife Becky was the best cook in the world.
There are so many things I want to share about "Willie T" and he will be fondly remembered and honored at the Governor and Colonel Gordon Browning Museum. He was as much a part of the staff as any and his support was appreciated by us and generations to come.
As I write, he lives and it was my intent to make sure his family have a good memorial for him. A man of bravery and honor deserves remembrance every day we are free in this land. It's not only on Veterans Day or Memorial Day or June 6 or December 7, every day we should remember our warriors. I shall think of you every day as I have since I first met you. Whether sharing a root beer or trying to pulled coins up you glued to your floor, every moment was fun. I know the gates of heaven are open for you for "my redeemer lives," as you wrote one day on a note book as we talked.
I pray for your dear family each day for I know you will be missed. But deep in our hearts, the memories live. Those memories are part of you and they are cherished. So sad I never got to say goodbye. I always counted you among my heroes as did many.
Never a braver man fought on the fields of battle nor a kinder man among family and friends. I know you would tell me you was not perfect but few reach the plateau you stood proudly on. Yes a true patriot and few were as devoted as you.. I hope every warrior remembers your commitment to the United States, your family and friends.
