J.W. West, age 78, of Nancy, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
J.W. was born on September 10, 1940, in Buena Vista, Garrard County, son of James E. and Dorothy Harrison Reed.
He married Ova Anna Buck on November 19, 1966, in Danville.
J.W. was the long-time maintenance supervisor for the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp. He was a Kentucky Colonel who loved to hunt, do woodworking and refinish furniture. J.W. enjoyed spending time with his family and was known to always have a smile on his face. He was a member of Okalona Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ova; his children, Priscilla (Burke) Burton and Steve, of Nancy, Teresa (Burke) Burton, of Nancy, Tony West and Brian, of Sevierville, Tennessee, Annette (West) Cannon and Bruce, of Centerville, Indiana, and Jerry West, of Richmond, Indiana; his sister, Darlene Lister and Wayne, of Danville; his grandchildren, Scott Burton, Amanda Burton, Kendra Burton-Warf, and Wynoma and Debra West; his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Carroll, Tashaun Dean and Gabriel Warf; his sister-in-law, Doris West, of Burgin; and his brothers-in-law, Billy Simpson, of Harrodsburg, and Kenny Wilson, of Danville.
Preceding J.W. in death are his parents; his brother, Howard West; and his sisters, Ann Simpson and Maxine Wilson.
A Celebration of the Life of J.W. West will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Nancy Funeral Home, with Bro. Jimmy Molen officiating. Entombment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens mausoleum.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019, after 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home chapel, until time for services.
