Luis Mitchell was the son of James Washington Mitchell (1863-1949) and Sarah Katharine "Kitty" Rogers. He was the husband of Mary Frances Perdue (1909-1987) of Bonaire, Georgia, and had two sons, Julius Madison Mitchell (1936) and the late Louis Thomas Mitchell (1933-2015). Lucius, was known as Uncle Mitch to his nieces and nephews.
