Joe R. Allen, age 83 of Paris, TN, died Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.

He retired after 35 years as the owner & operator of Allen's Carpet & Tile Cleaning in Paris. He formerly worked for State Termite in Paris and also as a self-employed carpet layer. Joe coached Babe Ruth and American Legion baseball in the 50's, 60's, and 70's in Paris. He also played with the Tennessee Valley Independent Baseball Team. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Paris and the Paris Elks Lodge. He was a charter member of the Paris Moose Lodge, where he served in various offices as well as administrator for several years. Joe also served as the State President for the Tennessee Moose Association from 1991-1992. He was later appointed by Moose International as Deputy Supreme Governor and received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

Joe was born February 13, 1937, in Cottage Grove, TN, to the late William Marshall Allen and Annie Lee Nichols Allen.

He was married May 20, 1954, to his wife of 66 years, Margaret Carter Allen, who survives, of Paris.

Along with his wife, he is also survived by one daughter, Vicky Jo (David) Paschall of Puryear, TN; one son, Ricky (Becky) Allen of Paris; one brother-in-law, Gary Ashlock of Paris; two grandchildren, Angela (Terry) Alton and Rikkian Allen; five great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Ann Ashlock; one brother in infancy, Cletus Howard Allen; and two grandchildren, Chris Allen and Cathy Louise Mosley.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, 2020, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Thursday, October 1, 2020, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 2:00 pm at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Mike Wimberley and Emily Walker officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Paschall, Terry Alton, Johnny Palmer, Kevin Hamlin, Mike Snow, Allen Ashlock, and Joe T. Allen. Named as honorary pallbearers are members of the Paris Moose Lodge.

Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, TN.
