Carolyn was born to George Minard Sr. and Willie Ella Minard. She was one of 11 children. She married her first husband Howard Cole Sr (deceased) and would raise sons Howard Jr. and Tarrence and their daughter Carletta in Detroit.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, her brother George Minard Jr. and his wife Leslie, and Carolyn's sister Kathy Minard-Sykes.
She is survived by her siblings; Tyrone Minard, Kevin Minard, Duane Minard Sr. (Kim) , Darnell Minard (Patricia), Timothy Minard (Sharon), Darrall Horn, Karla Smith and Eva Smith. She is also survived by her children children Howard Cole Sr., Tarrence (Mariama) Cole and Carletta Cole, and her 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
