SGT US Army
1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, out of Fort Stewart, GA
He died in Arab Jabour of wounds sustained during combat operations. Since John was a child, he wanted to be a soldier. His family lived in Henderson, Tennessee until he was 6 years old then the family moved to Union City. He graduated in 2001 from Obion County Central High School in Troy, Tennessee where he was remembered as a good kid. John decided to begin his military career with the Tennessee Army National Guard because he wanted to better himself and later entered active duty as a military police officer. He was a real hero who put his life on the line for his fellow soldiers. They were patrolling southwest of Baghdad when a decision was made to enter and search a house. As his group approached the house, he told the other soldiers to stay back and he would check it out. A concealed homemade bomb detonated as he entered. John was always a good kid who never got into any trouble – a proud and solid soldier on his third tour in Iraq who leaves behind his wife, Jennie, and a six-year-old daughter. He was buried in Arlington, near his grandfather who served in World War II.
Interment on September 27, 2007.
