He was raised and educated in Barnsdall, Oklahoma School system.
He entered the Air National Guard in 1961 where he served as an airplane mechanic.
He would later be employed by Reda Pump until he retired from there as a machinist.
Jim was a faithful member of the New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church where he co-pastored with his wife Connie.
Jim was an avid bowler until he lost his eyesight.
After that, his hobbies included listening to books on tape and enjoying his dog Arie Jane.
His greatest love however was music, and he enjoyed singing solos at church and singing with his friend, Bert Cotner (better known as the Bert & Ernie Duo)
Jim is survived by his wife Connie McCray of the home, three daughters, Melissa Savage and husband Mac of Bartlesville, Rebekah Maze and husband Frank of Phoenix, Arizona, and Tracie Leonard of Bartlesville, two sons, Terry Jordan and wife Bobbie of El Dorado, Kansas, and Kevin Jordan and fiancée Nikki Moody of Bartlesville, 18 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Thelma McCray, two brothers, (Bob McCray and his wife Von plus their son, Stan) and Floyd McCray and wife Corky
