WEYANOKE – Dorothy Blanche (Hanky) Howerton Lawrence, 94, of Weyanoke, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born April 22, 1926 at Lamar, she was the daughter of the late Alex Howerton and Helen Lucas Howerton. She was the last surviving member of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 51 years, Joseph Lawrence; infant daughter, Wanda Gail; sons, Earl Lawrence and Dennis Lawrence; granddaughter, Vicky Lawrence Laxton; sisters, Myrtle Mullins and Hester Hancock; and brother, Ernie Howerton.
She was a member of Weyanoke Church of God for more than 50 years. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
Survivors include daughters, Sue Poff and husband Calvin of Weyanoke and Peggy Matthews and husband Lewis (Pete) of Lashmeet; sons, Ernie Lawrence and wife Connie of Weyanoke, Marvin Lawrence and wife Brenda of Blacksburg, SC; step sister, Elsie Croy of Princeton; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and eight great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2020 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Margaret Holt officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
