DEATH OF OLD SETTLER
Jacob Gernie (sic) Cole, a well known resident of the south side in the vicinity of Doniphan, passed away yesterday at his home in Doniphan at the age of ninety years, four months and five days. By the people across the river he lived for thirty-one years and was known by everyone and highly esteemed. Death resulted from old age.
Mr. Cole, when fourteen years of age moved to Ohio from York (sic) state with his parents and was married there in the year 1842 (sic). In the year 1856 the family moved to Iowa and in the spring of 1880 to Hall County, Nebraska. Of the six children born, three are still living. They are P.F. Cole and Mrs. Roda Caldwell, of the south side and Mrs. Carrie Alexander of Indiana. There are twenty-four grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cole departed this earth six years ago. For the last twenty years Mr. Cole has lead more of a retired life and lived in Doniphan. The funeral will take place Sunday morning at 11 o'clock from the M. E. church at Doniphan. Rev. Mr. Kilborn will conduct the service.
