On October 9th, 1936, the Death Angel visited in the home of Sylvester Tullos and took his mother, Mrs. Ophelia Tullos to her reward. Mrs. Ophelia was seventy five years and two months old.
She has spent her entire life in this community, was a member of Athen Baptist church, being one of the charter members.
She leaves to mourn her going three children, Sylvester Tullos, Sam Tullos and Mrs. Kate Williamson; three grandsons, Clem Tullos, Gerdin and Cleveland Williamson. Several relatives and a host of friends.
To know Mrs. Ophelia was to love her. She spent her life of service to her community. And will be greatly missed. Weep not loved ones, she has only gone to be with her redeemer. Our loss is Heaven's gain, Earth has lost a precious jewel. She was the joy and pride. We loved her oh! too well for she slept and died. All is dark within the dwelling. Lonely are our hearts today, for the one we loved so dearly has passed away to be at rest, your cheery ways and kindness is a pleasure to recall. You had a smile for each and died be loved by all. Jesus has gathered a beautiful flower out of the garden of love, bore it away to the City of God, home of the Angels above. She is waiting for us all and again will clasp her hand. Won't that be a happy meeting? In that bright and happy land. Time may heal the broken hearts, time may make the wounds less sore, but time will never heal the longing for the one gone on before.
The doctor and loved ones did all they could to stay the hand of death, but in spite of loving hands and medical skill she died. God had a need for her so he called her home on high.
We can only bow in submission to His will. We can not call her back, but we can go to her. Why God called her from her children when seems like they needed her so much we cannot understand, but some day we will understand better.
Mrs. Ophelia was laid to rest in Macedonia cemetery with Rev. Benton, her pastor and Bro. A. J. Linton, conducting the service with Mims Mitchell in charge.
May the God she loved comfort her children and loved ones and give them a brighter hope for eternal glory.
May each be ready to meet her when the call shall come.
In loving sympathy and prayer, Agnes McGraw.
