Charles Leander "Bumpus" Jones was a son of Roseanna (Rose Anna) Jones. His mother married James Jeffries in 1874.
He married Etta Merritt and their only child was born and died in 1896. Etta died in 1935.

Bumpus played baseball 'for hire' in the early days but his claim to fame was, in his debut for the Cincinnati Reds, pitched the franchises first not-hitter.
