Betty Carlisle, 78, of Poplarville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020 in the Pearl River County Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born April 4, 1942 in Smith County, Mississippi to Orby Thay and Marvis Tillson Bryant. She was a longtime resident of Poplarville and a member of Juniper Grove Baptist Church. Betty was a longtime employee of Pearl River Community College and had worked for several law firms and insurance companies in Mississippi. In addition to her career as a secretary in insurance and law, she was employed as a teacher’s assistant at Poplarville Lower Elementary.

Betty was a devoted member of the Mississippi Baptist Association, serving as Area 9 coordinator and WMU director for many years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Sue Sorrels.

Family members include her husband of 51 years, James M. Carlisle, they were married on October 5, 1968 in Smith County, MS; two children, Shana Carlisle and Brian (Emily) Carlisle; four grandchildren, Rachel, Brennin, Kate, Daniel; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Services will be held at Juniper Grove Baptist Church (289 Juniper Grove Rd, Poplarville, MS, 39470) on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and have visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
