Tom was born on April 12, 1935 in Elizabeth, NJ, to Joseph V. & Alice V. Malone. He was the fourth of five brothers. The family resided in Hightstown & in Neptune City while Tom was growing up. He graduated from Asbury Park HS in 1953. Tom proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve (1954-1962), achieving the rank of SP5 (Sergeant), before receiving his Honorable Discharge. Concurrently, he was the full-time Head Storekeeper in the receiving dept. at the former Toms River Chemical Corp. (Ciba-Geigy) for many decades. It was there that Tom met the love of his life, Denise (nee McKelvey). They married on June 3, 1961, at St. Mary of the Lake RC Church in Lakewood & first resided near Parkway Pines, on the Howell/Brick border. Soon after, Tom & Denise moved permanently to the Laurelton section of Brick & raised three daughters, Sharon, Theresa & Nancy.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle & friend. He shared his love of nature, taking his family camping, mainly in Lancaster County, Pa. "Amish Country" at Oak Creek Campground, going to Beacon Beach & frequenting the Manasquan Inlet or Sea Girt/Spring Lake for boat watching. He enjoyed trips to New England with Denise & Nancy. Tom taught his daughters fishing & crabbing, Chess & other games, & brought the family to historic sites. He loved trains, especially the Pine Creek RR at Allaire & the Strasburg RR. Tom's interests included history, reading, classic movies, music, weather & news. He loved Yankee baseball, the Giants, Notre Dame "Fighting Irish" & Rutgers football, & car races. Tom loved "Jeopardy!" & his knowledge made the game easy for him. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas, Halloween & St. Patrick's Day; Tom enjoyed family get togethers & celebrations. He was a Communicant of Sacred Heart Parish in Bay Head; Tom was a member of the American Legion.
Tom was predeceased by his parents (Joseph V. & Alice V. Malone), & his big brothers (Joseph "Buddy", William "Billy", Robert "Bobby"), & his younger brother Edward Eugene ("Gene"). Surviving Tom are his beloved wife, Denise, (nee McKelvey), cherished daughters Sharon Malone, Nancy Malone and Theresa Malone Corino (dear son-in-law, Lon), as well as his loving grandchildren Casey Young, Brian Corino & Alison Corino, Sister-in-Law Irene Malone along with Charlie and Joe Jr., many loving nieces & nephews, neighborhood & long-time friends. Tom was a kind & generous man, well-loved by all who knew him, & was proud of his Irish heritage. He is sorely missed already & is held safely in our hearts.
Arrangements were private & under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Rte. 88, Brick. Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart RC Church, Bay Head. A memorial gathering/celebration of life for Tom will take place at a future date, enabling people to attend safely after the health crisis.
