Note: Twin sons Albin Beard and Alfred Beard are interred next to each other with their names engraved on the front face of the family monuments.Asa Beard was the son of David and Mary Beard. He married Lucy Goodnow on the 16th of May in 1805 in a ceremony performed in Nelson by Rev. Gad Newell.

Asa built the mill and boarding house, known as "Nelson Factory", near the outlet of Granite Lake and raised his family in the boarding house there.

"Capt." Asa was especially active in educational matters. He was a teacher of the "Moral School" for many years - teaching accepted customs of conduct and right living in a civil society. He helped draw up the rules for the proper conduct of schools in the town.

He served as Selectman, Town Clerk, and as a captain in the State Militia.

He and Lucy had several children, three of whom died young:
Leander, who drowned on August 15, 1816 at the age of 3

Susan, who died on July 17, 1818 at the age of 26

Amanda, who died in on October 15, 1829 at the age of 19.

Alfred, who removed to Nashua where he was buried. He died on 18 April 1839 while on a visit home.

Albion, married Julia A Crocker of Nelson, also removed to Nashua.

Asa died in a mill accident in Nelson.
