NEW FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- William S. Dempsey, 70, of Jewel Lane, New Fairfield, Conn., husband of the late Margaret S. (Mooney) Dempsey, died at his residence on Thursday, April 17, 2003, following a brief illness. He was born in Albany, N.Y., June 28, 1932, son of the late William J. and Esther E. (Dolan) Dempsey. Bill grew up in Troy, N.Y. and was a graduate of Colgate University, class of 1954.
He had worked in sales and marketing in the aerospace industry and had worked for the ITEK Corporation for 15 years and then for the Perkin-Elmer Corporation for close to 20 years. He retired in 1986. Bill had served in the US Navy during the Korean War and had also served in the US Navy Reserve for a total of 20 years.
He and his family had made their home in Maryland for many years, prior to moving to New Fairfield in 1980. Bill was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church, the New Fairfield Lions Club and had been a past president of the 'Goddard Space Club.'
He is survived by seven children, Deborah D. Clements of New Fairfield, William S. Dempsey Jr. of Danbury, Thomas J. Dempsey of Middletown, Md., Wendy M. Dempsey of New Fairfield, Terrence P. Dempsey of New Fairfield, Lisa R. Brooks of New Fairfield and Christopher F. Dempsey of Danbury; 17 grandchildren, Courtney, Stephen and Bridget Clements; Joshua, Noah, Danielle and Aaron Dempsey; Thomas Jr., Sean, Kristin and Eric Dempsey, Jessica Dempsey, Terrence D. Jr., Breannan, April and Kaili Dempsey, and Katherine Brooks. In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was predeceased by a granddaughter, Maggie Brooks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Mountainview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Conn. on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
