Norman Lee Decker, 74, of Churubusco, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Fort Wayne VA Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Born in Auburn, on December 1, 1945, to the late William and Katherine (Smith) Decker. He spent his formative years in Auburn, graduating from Auburn High School in 1964. After high school he earned his barber license from Indiana Barber College in 1964.

He joined the United States Army after barber college and served in Vietnam from 1966-1967. While stationed in a tent "somewhere between Da Nang and Saigon," Decker opened a makeshift barber shop where he cut his comrades' hair. He even fashioned a barber pole out of a 155 mm howitzer shell casing.

Norm was married to Dorothy Lancaster. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2015.

When Norm came home from war, he started his shop in Churubusco. He operated Norm's Barber Shop from 1965 to 2020. He started in Vietnam and finished in Churubusco.

He was a member of the Churubusco Lions Club, was a past president and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He served for 49 years. He also was a member of the Churubusco Masonic Lodge for 42 years.

Norman is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie (James) Griggs and Tracy Decker; a brother, Wayne (Michelle) Decker; his sister, Marilyn (Robert) Schmidt; his grandson, Alexander Duncan; his two granddaughters, Hannah Decker and Emma Decker; a great-granddaughter, Valerie Duncan.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Decker and Edward Decker.

Services will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Monday, September 28, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with calling one hour prior to the service.

The family will also receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2020, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held following the calling.
