Brian Leland Thompson, age 42, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 19, 2020 at his home in Ames.

Brian was born November 1, 1977 in Casper, Wyoming to Douglas and Charlotte (Lowery) Thompson. He graduated from South Brunswick High School Southport, NC

He went on to attend Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute, Scottsdale, AZ, earning an Associate of Occupational Studies degree.

Brian was quite accomplished and was an ABOC Licensed Optician, AQS Certified Quality Inspector, held Multiple Quality Inspection Metrology Certifications, and a Journeyman Machinist & Welder Certification. He spent most of his career working as a Quality Assurance Engineer in ISO certified machining environments.

First and foremost in Brian’s life was his family. He was devoted to them and blessed them with unconditional love and adoration.

His son, his nieces and his nephews were the light of his life.

Brian will always be remembered for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

He gave the best hugs! He was always so sincere and showed genuine appreciation to everyone he met. He was always the biggest advocate of bringing family together.

Brian was so generous and always wanted to give more than he had to help others. He had a true passion for cooking. He was an accomplished sous chef and prepared meals for the family that were better than any fine dining establishment could offer. He was a great teacher and mentor and always had patience with those he helped.

Brian was a true hobbyist – loved RC everything from cars to boats and would love to fine tune them to go faster and have more power than they were originally intended. He loved the outdoors - hiking, camping, fishing, target shooting, golfing, boating, and anything that brought family together. Brian was a car enthusiast. Loved working on all his vehicles and took incredible pride in his work.

Brian was an incredible athlete. Playing Lacrosse was his favorite sport. He was also a diehard Philadelphia Eagles football fan. Anyone that knew Brian knows that music was a big part of his life.

He is survived by his son, Devin Wilder of Bremerton, WA; parents, Douglas (Paula) Thompson of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, and Charlotte Lowery of Camp Verde, AZ; siblings, Jeffrey (Jana) Thompson of Appleton, WI, Kristopher (Season) Haught of Des Moines, IA, and Natalie (Nate) Horan of Muscatine, IA; nieces and nephews, Andrew, Logan, Josephine, Hudson, and Isabella; as well as numerous other extended family and loving friends.

Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cliff and Mattie Lockman of Paducah, KY, and Leland and Eugenie Thompson of Hemet, CA; and his brother, Gary Lee Murphy of Columbia, SC.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
