Jack F. Murphy, Sr., “Murf”, 87, of Liverpool passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

A native and life resident of Liverpool, he graduated from Liverpool High School, where he was the Captain of the basketball and football teams. In 1952, he joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country for 8 years. In 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Arlene R. (Leetze) Murphy, a blessed union of 63 years. Together they owned and operated Murphy’s Garage in Liverpool.

Murf worked hard for everything he had; he instilled that value in his family. As a young boy, he delivered papers, worked in the horse barn, gave horseback riding tours around the village, shoveled coal, and worked at Heid’s. He was the “jack” of all trades. He was selfless, always there to help, never expecting anything in return. He was quick witted, always had a joke ready. Murf loved reminiscing about his time growing up in the village, telling stories about how things used to be back in the day. His wife and grandkids were his pride and joy.

He is predeceased by his wife, Arlene who passed away in 2019; his twin sister, Jill Dudley and sister, Beverly McCray.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his two sons, Jack F. (Kathleen) Murphy, Jr. of Liverpool and Tim (Luann) Murphy of Mexico, NY; five grandchildren, Shawn (Jessica) Murphy, Jason (Maureen) Murphy, Shannon Murphy (Jimmy Dinehart), twins, Tyler and Cody Murphy; a great-grandson, Dillon; a great-granddaughter, Renee and several nieces and nephews.
