Born in New York came to Ohio with her parents when a girl and when they returned to their native state she remained in Ohio and became a school teacher, teaching at Niles, the early home of the late President Wm. McKinley, whom she taught as a boy. President McKinley's sister and Miss Belle Gulick were intimate friends and came together to Harrison county before the Civl War, where, Miss Gulick was a governess in the family of J.J. Tebbs and Miss McKinley in the family of Gen. Lucius Desha.

Belle married Phillip Ammerman and they lived near Cynthiana, Ky. In recent years when the old school at Niles, Ohio, was being converted into a "McKinley shrine" the commission asked Mrs. Ammerman for her picture to hang upon the walls of that room and it occupies a place there.

Member of the Methodist Episcopal church, South.
