Johnnie A. Blair Life Story
To say that John was one of a kind is an understatement. He was friendly, funny, helpful, and
determined, among many other traits that a passionate man possesses. His passion to make life better for his family, friends, and coworkers was evident and unapologetic. You could see this in his life's work as a Union Brother who always had time for his coworkers and friends.
John had a wonderful way with words; he loved to write and would never pass up the chance to speak his mind, as well as breaking out in song (usually a Broadway love song) at any given moment. He had an interest in acting for quite some time and loved to see a movie at the theater, sometimes even twice a week. He also enjoyed golfing (playing and showing others how to play).
John was born in Hardin, Illinois on August 16th, 1942 to John Shelby Blair and Golda Blair. He had the pleasure of growing up with his younger brother, Dannie. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti, MI in 1960, at the age of 18 John joined the United States Air Force and served until 1964. John later attended Henry Ford Community College to obtain his
Journeyman Toolmaker Certification and attended Eastern Michigan University from 1968 to
1973.
From John's first marriage to Beatrice he had 3 children, Robert (Nita), the late Karen Okroy
(Tony), and Michael (Tina) whom he loved very much. In recent years, John and Robert would
talk on the phone every day. This was something John enjoyed very much. John married Janice on April 24th, 1999. John felt strongly about being a father to Janice's children and had early on proved to love them as his own. John adopted Jessica on April 11, 2001; this was a very happy time for the family and John would not of have it any other way. John was a dear stepfather to Jeffery (Adrienne), Melissa (David), and Daniel (Tiffany). He was cherished by his grandchildren: Beverly Variot (Joseph), Alyssa Okroy, Thomas Blair, his 13 step grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
John worked for Ford Motor Company for 35 years from 1966 to 2001. He retired as a Benefits Union Representative from UAW Local 898. The out pour of love and thoughts from his union brothers and sisters has been in great abundance. John accepted Christ as his Savior and he attended Faith Baptist Church in Spring Hill, Florida. John desired to spend time in Florida and he and Janice spent the last 4 years happily living in Spring Hill. John will truly be missed by his family and friends.
