He was born on December 12, 1923 in Leon, Iowa the son of Jacob Arthur and Velta Elma (Nickells) Lentz.
On October 20, 1945, he married Frances “Corinne” Hashman in Lineville, MO. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2017.
Carl attended a one room country school in Leon, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, auto body work and reading his bible. Carl was a faithful worshipper and church attender. He was baptized in water on September 10, 1944. Carl and Corinne joined the Lineville Assembly of God Church on September 21, 1945. They took care of cleaning and mowing the lawn for the church for years. He was never shy about telling you about God, even in the nursing home, he was called the Preacher, singing hymns and praying.
He and his father worked as welders. Carl later purchased the Lentz Welding Shop in Lineville which still stands today.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Morris and Merlin; two sisters, Leota Merkel and Lueretta Sullivan and a grandson, Marty Flummer.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Charlene (Jim) Collier, Mercer, MO, Christine (Larry) Cordray, Browning, MO, Carolyn Berndt, Des Moines, IA; son, Kevin (Kristin) Lentz, Jefferson, IA; 8 grandchildren, Terri Nigh, Tiffany Siemer, Scott Jones, Kyle and Brett Berndt, Kassandra Hedges and Kaleb Lentz, and Ashley Riphagen; 25 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Lois) Lentz and Donnie (Virginia) Lentz; sisters, Mary Kitto and Violet (Susie) Bennett, and many nieces and nephews.
