Joe Jimenez entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 20, 2020 in Deer Park, TX at the age of 83. He was born on December 8, 1936 in Waelder, TX. He loved all his family especially his grandchildren. He was the happiest when the family was together. Joe was the oldest son from a large family of 14.

Joe is preceded in death by his loving parents, Paulina Mendez Jimenez & Julio Zapata Jimenez, Sr., his son Jared Jimenez, son-in-law Ray Balderas and his siblings, Nazario Jimenez, Mary Martinez, Josefina Almanza, Elida Martinez, Julio Jimenez, Jr., Rudy Jimenez, Rosalinda Perez. He is survived by his former wife of 37 years and close friend Anita Castillo Jimenez; daughters Sylvia, Shirley, Michelle (Sergio) Balderas, JoAnn (Joe) Rodriguez; son Joseph Julio (Aurora) Jimenez; and siblings Altagracia (Cruz) Zendejas, Carmelo (Bertha) Jimenez, Catarino (Rosita) Jimenez, Emilio (Irma) Jimenez, Richard (Teresa) Jimenez, Edna (Joe) Salas; 10 Grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and former in-laws.

Joe was raised in San Antonio, TX near Mission Concepcion. He has many friends from the Parkview area and a few even married his siblings. He was hard-working. He hardly missed a day of work. He was a man who was always there for his family. He was smart. He could fix anything. He never took music lessons but he could play the guitar and the accordion. He loved to tinker and invent things. He patented a device to help curb the urge of smoking. He created a “washer” board game different than the “bean bag” type with a more difficult playing technique. He worked for Ford Motor Company division assigned at Mission Control at NASA as a technician repairing cameras and monitors during Apollo 11, 12, 13. A very incredible feat for the sixties. He love to play Scrabble and almost never lost. He loved sports and followed all the Houston teams from the Houston Oilers to the Houston Texans, from the Houston Colt 45s to the Houston Astros, and the Houston Rockets. Before Facebook, he published a family newsletter online as a way to communicate family events and historically keep the younger generation informed about our family history. He had a very loud and firm tone when he talked. For the most part, his bark was louder than his bite. He loved to joke and laugh. It was part of his upbringing. The Jimenez family love to laugh and find humor in most anything. He always had faith in Our Lord and a deep devotion to Our Lady. Joe will be missed by all his family and friends.
