Georgia Bell Bonner Jones

February 12, 1932 - September 13, 2020

Georgia Bell Bonner Jones was born the fifth of ten children to David Benjamin and Laura Bell Bonner on February 12, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama.

At an early age, Georgia professed her faith in Jesus Christ. She joined and was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of the late pastor, Rev. Jesse Walker. She attended Lincoln Elementary School. After graduation from A.H. Parker High School, Georgia attended Miles College. In March 1971 she moved her family to Galveston, Texas. The family united with St John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late pastor, Rev. Andrew Henry Wilson. Georgia was a faithful member and musician of the Sunday School and the Youth choir.

God blessed Georgia with the talent of playing the piano and organ by ear. She shared her gift with several churches in Birmingham and Texas by serving as musician for all choirs – Sanctuary choir, Youth choir, Inspirational choir, male chorus as well as Sunday School and BTU. She was a musician for the 1960 Movement Choir in Birmingham, Alabama under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. Georgia served God with her whole heart. Jesus was the center of her joy. In 1995 she was inducted into the Galveston County Sacred Musician Hall of Fame.

Georgia was united in holy matrimony to Willie Jones, Sr. on June 15, 1959. Her life can be characterized by lots of laughter and friends. Georgia quietly departed this life on Sunday, September 13, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willie, Sr.; son, Willie, Jr.; brothers, Joshua, David Charles and James Bonner; sisters, Martha Jackson, Helen Coleman, Lillie Mae Bonner, Erma Bonner; nephew, David Charles Bonner, Jr.; cherished niece, Betty Williams; and cherished nephew, Reginald Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her memory three loving daughters, Lillie Davis, her caretaker until she departed, (Henry deceased in 2007), Alma Parsons, Sharon Jones of Austin, Texas (Bobby deceased 2020); grandsons, Oliver Parson, Darnell Jones (Amaris); granddaughters, Andrea Parson, Jennifer Williams (Austin), Jessica Howell (Elliott) of Midlothian; great granddaughters, Brianna Parson, Kyianna Parson, and Castyana Parson; great grandsons, Elijah, Micah, and Derrick, and Daren Jones and Jamison Howell (Midlothian); sister, Jacqueline Wiggins (Richard) of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
