Steven L. Helton – age 73 of Cameron, MO and formerly of Gallatin, MO passed away September 22, 2020 at Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron, MO. He was born on March 12, 1947, the son of John Wayne and Nina Pauline (Maroney) Helton in Gallatin, MO.

Steve graduated from Gallatin High School in 1965 and then attended the University of Central Missouri. He later attended the University of Central Oklahoma where he received a degree in mortuary science. Steve owned and operated Hope Funeral Home in Gallatin and began his career with his father-in-law, L.O. Richesson. Steve was a kind and compassionate man who helped many families in their time of sorrow. He served as the Daviess County coroner for many years. He was a former member of the Gallatin Rotary Club and served on the Gallatin City Council. Steve was also a member of the Gallatin Masonic Lodge #106 and past member of Moila Shrine Temple in St. Joseph, MO.

Steve was united in marriage to Jan Richesson in 1967, they later divorced. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kay Kordes and sister, Diane Gray. He is survived by son, Jason (Kanna) Helton of Chillicothe, MO; daughter, Paige (Jason) Zimmerman of Kansas City, MO; 4 grandchildren: Hope, Ty, Cooper and Cam; brother, John (Lila) Helton of Springfield, MO; nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation or the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to 5 PM, Friday, September 25th, 2020. Per Steve's wishes he will be cremated and a private family graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin under the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home, Gallatin.
