Walter Clee Daniels, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully Monday evening at Barbour Court Nursing Home.

Walter was born in Johnston County on November 25, 1928 to the late Walter Clee Daniels, Sr. and Ethel Watson Daniels. Family was important to Walter and he will always be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army. The town of Kenly held a special place in his heart, as he not only lived and worked there his entire life he also served seventeen years on the town council including the role of Mayor Pro Tem. Walter also ran the Hot Shot Motel and Restaurant, then later the Kenly Motor Lodge. He also spent many years running three farms, which he greatly enjoyed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Kenly Original Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a service to remember his life at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Aubrey Williamson officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Kenly Cemetery.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of sixty eight years, Ruth Atkinson Daniels; daughter, Mary Daniels Hinnant and husband Henry of Surf City; sons, Walter Clifton Daniels of Wilson, and John Gregory Daniels of New York City; grandsons, Brian Daniels and Matthew Daniels; great grandchildren, Mary Alex Daniels, Caroline Daniels, Kyle Daniels, Ben Daniels, and Anna Daniels; half-brother, Hank Daniels, and half-sister, Rebecca Brannon; and many loving nieces and nephews.
