Info from family history records (verbatim):

John was 26 years old and Christena was 18 years old when they were married (Feb 5, 1871) in Celina, Mercer County, Ohio. Both were the children of German immgrants. John was involved in and attended Quaker meetings when he was a young man. He was a member of Hopewell Friends Church.

When first married, and after just getting a farm and a house built, they had a fire that destroyed everything.

At one time John and Christena owned a hotel (Commercial House) in Celina, Ohio. They later moved to Geneva, Indiana around 1905.

In December 1907 the family moved to Texas and started a cattle farm near Hereford, Texas. Christena wrote in her recipe book, "In Panhandle - May 23, 1908, we had the hardest rain and hail storm I ever witnessed in all my life." Also, "11 & 12 of March 1909 we had 10 inches of snow."

In 1918 there was a terrible blizzard and big flu epidemic and they lost all their cattle. They returned to Celina, Ohio in the fall of 1922 and lived on North Sugar St.

One of his granddaughters recalls John offering her a nickel if she would wear her skirts down to her ankles (in the 1920s) when she was a child. Even though that was a lot of money for a kid then, she wasn't interested in the offer.

Around 1925, John and Christena moved to Stoy, IL to live with their daughter Mollie Hall. They both died in IL but were buried back in Celina, Ohio in the Friends Chapel cemetery. Their children Royal and Myrtle have separate grave markers next to John and Christena's, and they are also included on their parents' headstone.

John and Christena had 10 children together (5 died as infants or children), plus they had one adopted daughter named Flora.

Their Children:
Charles W 1872-72
Pearlie Elsie 1874-74
Flora (adopted) 1875-?

Mary "Mollie" Eva Belle (Hall) 1878-1956
