Lt. Col. Bruce Carlton Wood (Ret.), 67, of Alexandria, VA passed in peace on April 12, 2019. Bruce was born January 23, 1952 to the late Anita and Bill Wood in Washington, D.C. He attended Surrattsville High School in Clinton, MD. Upon graduation, Bruce entered into the United States Air Force, where he would serve his country for 30 years. After his retirement in 1998 he was college professor. In 2001, Bruce and Barb purchased a home in Alexandria, VA and one on Nomini Creek in Montross, VA. Also, in 2001 he started growing oysters as a hobby, and with the health of the bay in mind. In just a few years, his hobby turned into a successful oyster and seafood company, Dragon Creek. His successful business featured him in several articles, such as the Washington Post, Washington City Paper and the National Geographic and developed close friendships in the Washington, D.C. restaurant industry.

Through his life successes, his true love was for his wife, daughters, grandchildren, sister, niece, nephew, cousins and friends he considered a part of the family. Bruce enjoyed getting everyone together to cook for, play pool, laugh and build lasting memories. He had a larger than life sense of humor, as well as Brucism’s or Dadism’s that we will all remember fondly, and perhaps use them in our daily life in his memory. All that he knew and loved, the world lost a bright light will miss Bruce.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Barbara (Barbie) Wood: Three daughters, Shannon (Matt); Adrienne (Chris); and Dana (Otto); grandchildren, Anna Marie, Devun, Lillian, Addison, Abigail, Blair, Townsend, and Cash; sister Anita (Ted); niece Connie (Todd), nephew Matt (Sonya), cousin Pete (Carol).

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 22 at Christ Episcopal Church-Wayside, 13050 Rock Point Road, Newburg, MD 20664. A reception will follow the Celebration of Life in the Church Hall.
