Rink grew up in the community of Hassard, east of Monroe City. He attended his early years of school in a one-room school house in Hassard. Rink graduated from Monroe City R-I High School in 1946. Rink and Channie owned Hassard Elevator Co., where Rink spent his life of hard work and service to the Monroe City farming community as a second generation business owner. Rink was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he served on its Board of Directors. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the board of directors of the Monroe City Manor for several years. Rink served his country in the Naval Reserves for 8 years. Rink retired from Hassard Elevator in 1990, when he developed his passion for fishing. He outlived his many fishing buddies. Rink was an avid fan of the Monroe City Panthers, Holy Rosary Trojans and St. Louis Cardinals. He was "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to hundreds of others in his hometown of Monroe City.
