Floyd Olan Brown, age 72, of Marion Springs, MI, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020,
in his home in the presence of his family.

Floyd was born in Manila, AR on July 25, 1948, son of Sylver and Maxine (Miley) Brown. His family moved to Mid-Michigan when he was 3 years old.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at McGeehan Funeral Home in St. Charles, MI. Burial will follow at Marion Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 23, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Floyd graduated from Ashley High School in 1967 where he played football and helped his team win the league championship in 1966. He was drafted into the Army in May of 1968 and proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne in the Vietnam War. During combat, Floyd was injured when a rocket propelled grenade struck a tree near him. He was sent back to the U. S. after recovery and served the rest of his time at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He was honorably discharged in May of 1970 with the rank of Sergeant E5.

He married Carla Arlene Miller in Elsie, MI on February 28, 1976. Together they loved to camp and travel, and they enjoyed trips to the Caribbean, South Carolina, Cancun, and Kentucky to visit their daughter and her family. Some of their fondest travel memories were the six winters they spent with their travel companions Mike and Bonnie Petricevic in Orange Beach, AL. Floyd and Carla were married for 44 years.

Floyd worked for Maurell Products in Owosso, MI hauling pontoon boats across the United States, and he later worked for and retired from Waste Management. He also coached footballfor 2 years at Merrill High School where he had the honor of coaching his son Chad.

Floyd enjoyed listening to music, playing the bass guitar, and writing songs. He played in several bands, including Brown Family & Friends, Bad River Boys, Graceland Express, and The Gamblers. Everyone loved to hear him sing "Maria Laveau" and "Hang On Sloopy". Floyd had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, camping, and playing pool. He took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren play sports and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and U of M football. His family will remember his love of reading Louis L'Amour books, doing word searches, and watching John Wayne movies, M*A*S*H, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Heartland, Longmire, and other western movies.

Floyd is survived by his wife Carla of Marion Springs, MI; his children: Bobbi Borsenik of Merrill, MI; Chad Brown of Hope, MI; and Jessica (Jason) Roberson of Carrollton, KY; his grandchildren: Matt Borsenik, Kaylie Brown, Corbin Brown, Mackenzi Borsenik, Elizabeth Roberson, and Adelyn Roberson; honorary granddaughter Julia Ekhardt of Munich, Germany; his brothers Loyd Brown and Ronnie (Carol) Brown; his extended family: Shirley Brown, Jean (Frank) Gross, Sonny (Joan) Miller, Joyce (Marvin) Weigold, Richard (Martha) Miller, Jim (Geri) Miller, Joann (Walt) Kroll, Mike Petricevic, Robert (Jan) Miller, Jenney Wendling, Howard (Lois) Miller, Lucy (Jim Kennedy) Maier, Dean (Debbie) Miller, Dave (Fran) Thiel, and Mike Wendling; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents Sylver & Maxine Brown; his in-laws Melvin & Arlene Miller; son-in-law Matt Borsenik; sisters: Joyce Polash and Kathy Brown; brothers Anthony Brown, Troy Brown, and Wayne Brown; nephew David Brown; brother-in-law Ken Maier; and sisters-in-law Beverly Brown and Bonnie Petricevic.
