JAMES THOMAS ELDREDGE
Mr. James Thomas Eldredge, a leading real estate broker of this city, died at his residence, 199 Beacon street, yesterday morning, after a brief illness, aged sixty-one. Mr. Eldredge was a native of Boston, and was a graduate of the Latin School, which he entered in 1840, and of Harvard College, in 1849, with Charles R. Codman, Horace Davis and Abbott Lawrence as classmates. After travelling in various quarters of the world and visiting Australia during the gold fever times he returned to Boston, and in 1858 engaged in the real estate business. He was burned out in the great fire, and took offices at No. 27 State street, and associated with him Mr. Daniel Sargent, under the firm name of James T. Eldredge & Co. He owned many large estates in Boston, notably the Hotel Bristol, and was trustee of many others. A widow, who was before marriage Miss Ellen S. Williams of Roxbury, survives him, together with six children. Four years ago, Mr. Eldredge was striken with paralysis, which was the cause of his death. Boston Post, Friday, December 20, 1889.
