He is preceded in death by his father Nathan Simmons, mother Jo Ann Jones, sister Debbie Ann Raney, and stepfather Robert V. Jones. Nathan is survived by his sister Sandy Erickson, stepsisters Lisa Longbotham and Suzanne Fleming, and stepbrother Donald Jones.
Nathan graduated from Mesquite High School in 1972. He attended college in Austin, Texas and worked for WFAA in the 1970s. Later, he moved to California to work in the photographer/TV/film industry. In his freetime, Nathan loved to ride his bicycle on the roads. He is also known for his dedicated support to the LGBT community.
