Dorothy Perkins, 93, passed away on September 19, 2020, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

She was born on January 22, 1927, in Des Moines, to Harold and Eva Hockmuth.

Dorothy graduated from East High School in 1945.

She married her high school sweetheart, Billy Perkins, on October 11, 1945, in Des Moines during Billy’s furlough, and then returned to Texas. After Billy’s discharge, they returned to the Des Moines area.

Dorothy worked for the telephone company before marrying, and then later at Midcontinent Bottlers as an accountant for many years.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, who cherished time spent with her family. She dedicated her time and talents to raising her three daughters and proudly maintained an immaculate household.

Dorothy was a member of The Church at Union Park and an active member of East High School Class Alumni and ABWA.

She enjoyed making porcelain dolls and knitting afghans which were gifted to family members and she had even entered one into the Iowa State Fair. Dorothy was also very musically inclined and was a fantastic singer.

She will be remembered as a gracious, classy, kind, and giving woman who will be greatly missed by those she touched.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Debra (Gene) Bone, Pamela (Jim) Nass, and Denise (Jerry) Lamb; as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Eva; husband, Billy Perkins, and her sister, Maxine Judkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Care Initiative Hospice or The Church at Union Park in loving memory of Dorothy.
