He was born in Union County, Indiana on March 19, 1937, the son of Claudie and Alice (Fields) Harris.
He was married June 1, 1957, to Martha J. “Pat” Fields who survives.
Art retired in 1999 from New Idea where he was a millwright. He was also a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, was a member of Friends Church and Portland Optimist Club and board member of Quaker Haven, and was active with Quaker Disaster Relief. He was a 1955 Jefferson High School graduate in Randolph County.
Surviving are his wife Pat; three sons, Larry Harris (wife: Traci) of Oswego, Illinois, Ron Harris of Portland and James Harris (wife: Renita) of Rossville, Indiana; one daughter, Rebecca Lewis of Portland; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held with burial in the Weimer Cemetery
