WATERBURY – Mr. James Francis Morrissey, 96, of 20 Lockhart Avenue, died peacefully, Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Saint Mary’s Hospital with his loving daughter and son by his side. He was the widow of Maxine (Moran) Morrissey.

Mr. Morrissey was born in Waterbury on April 29, 1914, son of the late John and Mary (Byrnes) Morrissey. He was educated in local schools and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Army Air Force Base Unit, the U.S. Army Reserves and earning the rank of staff sergeant. He retired in 1978 after many years of service from the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., where he worked as a liquor store manager.

He was a member of VFW Post 210 and the Mattatuck Senior Center. He enjoyed traveling and made trips to many destinations, including Hawaii, Ireland, Maine, Cape Cod and Las Vegas. He also enjoyed day trips to the local casinos. Known affectionately as “Mr. M”, he will always be remembered fondly for his beautiful smile and his kind and gentle heart.

He leaves his son, John W. Morrissey; daughter, Carol A. Morrissey; and brother, Edward F. Morrissey, all of Waterbury; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Mr. William Morrissey and Mr. Raymond Morrissey, and his sisters, Mrs. Mary Kelly, Mrs. Alice Donnelly, Mrs. Elizabeth Glover and Mrs. Margaret Parker.

Arrangements: Funeral will leave the Kelly-Brennan Funeral Home on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. for St. Francis Xavier Church for Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at New Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
