He was born on April 6, 1944 in Corinne, WV to the late Miles "Frank" O’Neal (1912-2000) and Zola Irene Smith-O’Neal (1916-2005). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene O'Neal (1932–2019), Herbert Smith O'Neal (1934–2005), and Carol Lynn O'Neal-Ashley (1946–2005).
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Katherine "Rose" Gillispie-O’Neal; one son, David Leon O’Neal, Jr & wife Laura O'Neal; one grandson, Jordan O'Neal of Troutman, NC; one brother, Sam O’Neal & wife Sharlene O'Neal of Corrine; one sister, Donna O'Neal-Clayton & husband Wayne Clayton of Parkersburg; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Reverend Louis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In accordance with the current CDC guidelines, the family and the staff of Blue Ridge Funeral Home ask that those who attend the services wear proper facial coverings and practice social distancing at all times.
