Betty Jayne (Lambert) Newsome, 77, passed away at home in Fort White, FL on March 17, 2017. Betty Jayne was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She was retired from the Gainesville VAMC after 15 years helping veterans with paperwork required to get the medical care they needed. She was the representative of the DAVA at the Lake City VAMC Volunteer Service, distributing lap blankets and bags of individual toiletries and other personal items the veterans needed during their stay at the hospital.

Betty Jayne was an active member of her church, singing in the choir and supporting the sewing group.

She loved country living, gardening, fishing and camping around the many springs and rivers in our area. She and her husband raised German Shepherds and she assisted him as he trained them and gifted them to veterans.

Betty Jayne is survived by [omitted for privacy of the living].

She was preceded in death by her son Michael Shepard.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Shiloh Baptist Church 173 SW Shiloh St, Fort White, FL 32038. Visitation is from 10-11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. A lunch will be provided for those attending, following the service. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to the Sewing Group at Shiloh Baptist Church.
