Stephen Anthony Beal, 88, a retired teacher, of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 6, 2011, from a short battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Manhattan, N.Y., and was a 10-year resident of Nevada. As a youngster, he loved baseball and once got to meet his childhood hero, Babe Ruth. He went on to get a bachelor of science degree, and worked for years as an job shopper and engineer in the defense industry.


He went on to be a well-respected teacher at Brooklyn Tech, an advanced placement high school. He taught for 20 years and had a great relationship with his students. He retired in 1987. He lived in Little Neck, Queens, N.Y.; then with his wife, Helen, divided his residences between Dunedin, Fla., and Atlantic City, N.J. There, they got their "basic training," and became quite the partnership in the gaming and horse racing arena. They relocated to Las Vegas in 2000. Steve enjoyed visits from family and showing them the ropes in the casinos. He loved his cats and playing bridge with friends and playing in poker tournaments. Although he may have dozed off at dinner, he never did in "church." Steve was a wonderful marital partner and friend. He will be sorely missed.


Steve was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Bile; and mother, Carrie Bile. Steve is survived by his children from his first marriage, son, Richard; granddaughter, Emily; daughter, Peggy; and granddaughter, Katy; as well as his wife, of 43 years, Helen; his stepson, Rick; grandsons, Tony and Bobby; and stepdaughter, Ann. No services are scheduled.
