He served in the U.S. Army 1st Armored Division in North Africa during World War II. After the war they farmed in Howell for eight years, and he also worked for the Bear River Telephone Company in Tremonton. In 1954, his family left the farm and he worked for Bonneville Construction Company installing dial phone systems and power lines in communities in five western states, including Alaska. The construction work brought his family to Tuolumne in 1957. He was offered permanent employment with the Tuolumne Telephone Company and worked there for 32 years.
He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving ten years as bishop of the Sonora California Ward. He and Wilma served a 19-month church mission together in New Zealand after their retirement.
He is survived by a daughter and three sons, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, as well as his younger brother and sister. He was preceded in death by Wilma, his wife of 68 years, who died last June, his parents, and 12 brothers and sisters.
A funeral service is scheduled for Jan. 27, in Sonora.
