John was born in Quanah, Texas on June 9, 1944, to T.R. and Allene (Lamb) Jacobs. John honorably served his country in United States Army for two years. He was stationed at Fort Hood and then was a member of the National Guard for six additional years.
John married his high school sweetheart, Ginger Lea Jacobs, of Quanah, Texas on December 4, 1965 in Plainview, Texas. They made Littlefield their home in 1991; where he was the district manager of the gas company, currently known as Atmos. John retired after 35 years of service to the company.
John was an avid golfer, puzzle-maker, and woodworker. His golfing comrades were his best of friends in the best of times, but most of all David Bradley, who was his golf partner for the past 10 years and like a brother to John.
He was a loving father to Jason, and a loving husband to Ginger. He was the best GPJ (great papa John) we could have asked for.
John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.
John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ginger Lea Jacobs, one child, Jason Scott Jacobs and (Kimberly) and his “daughter”, Stacie Lee Butcher and (William), six grandchildren, Amber (Roderick), Jasmine (James), Scott (Letisha), Dunya, Mike, Hali, and 10 great-grandchildren, his sister, Marjorie Jacobs Wilkerson (Beefy) of Abilene and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Veterans Administration.
