RUTH IRENE CARPENTER
April 22, 1931 - September 18, 2020
Ruth Irene Carpenter, age 89, of Menahga, MN passed away surrounded by family on September 18, 2020 at Serenity Living Solutions in Sebeka, MN.
Ruth was the third child and oldest daughter of Nester and Senia (Burkman) Komppa. She was born April 22, 1931 at home on the farm where she and all her siblings grew up in Red Eye Township in rural Menahga, MN. Ruth attended the local country school nearby. When Ruth was 16, she went to the Cities taking care of children for a family for a couple of years. The summer when she was 18, she dated Calvin Carpenter and four months later, they were married on October 29, 1949. Calvin and Ruth were blessed with 8 children and were married almost 33 years until Calvin’s untimely death on August 15, 1982. At that time, Ruth’s older son, Rod, came home to farm the family farm. Later Ruth’s younger son, Dean and then Ruth’s grandson, Josh joined Rod and Dean. Rod, Dean, and Josh continue to run the family farm. Ruth helped with the farm until her retirement. She continued to live on the homestead with Dean until she moved to Serenity Living Solutions in March 2020.
Faith was important to Ruth. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sebeka, MN. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed baking, her flowers, and gardening. Many Sundays, she would watch her husband, brothers, nephews, sons, and grandsons play on the Red Eye baseball games. But her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Ruth’s home, the coffee pot was always on and she always wanted you to have just a little something to eat!
Ruth will lovingly be remembered by her children: Patricia (Dennis) Rauch, Marilyn (Marvin) Warmbold, Betty (Miles) Kreklau, Rodney (Janet) Carpenter, Connie (Clyde) Friesner, Peggy (David) Lake, Dean Carpenter, JoAnn (Dustin) Spitzack; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-granchildren plus two on the way; brothers: Donald (Jane) Komppa, Fred (Evelyn) Komppa, Gary Komppa; sister Linda (Bruce) Levander; sister-in-law Rebecca Komppa; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband Calvin; grandson Travis Friesner; brothers: Gene Komppa, Arve Komppa, Clifford Komppa, and Larry Komppa; sisters: Annie Komppa, Hazel Schmitz and baby Florence; sisters-in-law: Shirley Komppa and Ruth Komppa; and brother-in-law Jack Schmitz.
Funeral Services will be held 11;00 AM Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Sebeka West Cemetery.
