Samuel was the eldest son of Frederick Floyd (born 1765/1774 SC/NC - died 1816/1819 Horry County, SC) and his first wife, Unknown Floyd, who probably died circa 1808. Frederick Floyd married 2) Sarah Unknown Floyd who is listed as a widow in the 1820 census of Horry County, SC. She was deceased or remarried by 1 Nov 1842 when a legal partition sale of land was filed. The burial sites of Frederick and his wives are unknown but the heirs of Frederick Floyd named in the legal case are:

Samuel Floyd (Out of the jurisdiction of the court)
James Floyd (Out of the jurisdiction of the court)
Ann Floyd married to Patrick Lewis
Patience Floyd married to Henry Gerrald
Mary Floyd married to Elias Jernigan
Right Floyd
Jane Floyd to Isaac Mincey
Catherine Floyd married to Samuel Gerrald (Out of the jurisdiction of the court)
Everet Floyd (Out of the jurisdiction of the court)
Hardy Floyd (Out of the jurisdiction of the court)
Frederick Floyd II

Samuel Floyd's family helped to organize and were active members of the Concord Baptist Church in 1853. It is said that Concord shared the cemetery created beside the Sharon Presbyterian Church. Several of Samuel and Ava Jane's children are interred in the Sharon Cemetery and relatives believe that both Samuel and Ava Jane are also buried there without markers.

Samuel is believed to have died about 1862 as Ava Jane, not Samuel, was listed on the 1863 Simpson County, MS tax list.
