Darlene Mae Hill, age 91, died at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa on September 17, 2020. She was the daughter of William Arthur and Goldie Irene (Buckingham) Young, born on November 14, 1928, near Davis City, Iowa in Decatur County.

Darlene grew up and attended school in Decatur County, Iowa. She walked six miles a day to be able to go to high school. She graduated from Leon High School in 1946. On June 4, 1946, she married Maurice Neal Hill in Atchison, Kansas. The couple came home to Decatur County where Darlene worked at the telephone office before their first child was born. She then became a stay at home wife and mother to their three children, Ronald, Gloria, and Darla.

Darlene loved the farm and driving the tractors. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, canning, and raising chickens. She helped Maurice on the farm in whatever way she could including milking the cows.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Maurice Hill; son, Ron Hill; and two brothers, Darrell Young and Don Young. Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Wyatt and husband John, of Osceola, Iowa and Darla Hill of Creston, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kay Hill of Decatur, Iowa; grandchildren, Nancy Hill, Sandra Hill, Bill Hill, Janet Maki, Gina Lewis, Lacey Anderson, Casey Lincoln, and Paul Lorenz, III; 15 great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; sister, Doris Sisson and husband, Jim, of Waukesha, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Elaine Hill of Creston, Iowa, Sara Van Nostrand and husband, Jim, of New Jersey, and Donna Roskens and husband, Russ, of Nevada; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
